Not much needs to be said about lighting during a power outage. Modern LED or CFL lights use relatively insignificant amounts of power unless deployed in absurd excess. We've become accustomed to very high levels of illumination, in an outage it pays to let our eyes dark adapt. Small LED headlamps are extremely useful to help minimize the need for area light and to get things set up if caught by surprise in a blackout. I'd suggest those with rechargeable batteries, either internal or, better still, replaceable so that batteries can be swapped out and recharged separately. Traditional hand-held flashights are better than nothing, but otherwise of little use compared to headlamps. I'd studiously avoid use of open flame lights unless absolutely nothing better can be had. Enclosed flame lights such as hurricane (Dietz) lanterns are safer than open flames but apallingly inefficient. It's probably better to add the lamp oil to the generator fuel. Pressurized white gas mantle lamps are a bit better, but I'd still put the gasoline in the genny, or save it for when the generator won't start.. 20230806
